1. One of the things i really recommend when listening to NOMINON albums is the diverse drumming that gives the songs another dimension of energy without getting too technical. What is the process you follow to set up the arrangements on the drums for a song?

“Thanks mate! I guess it’s just the way we work when we compose music, Juha and Chris usually comes up with some riffs from Hell and then I jam along with it and after a while I got something that most likely will sound like NOMINON. It took me quite a bunch of years to develop my own style of drumming. I believe it’s very important to have your own style, because trying to copy others would make you sound less original as a drummer. So I always try to make something special, but still keep it within my own personal “range” of playing drums.”

2. As far as i know this is the first full live release for the band, what does it mean to you and to the band?

“Yes, you are right, this one here is our debut full length live album. We released a Live 7” EP entitled “Legioes Em Portugal” through Badger Rds back in 2008. But this recording is more of a proper live recording in many ways, plus that the whole thing has been mixed and mastered in a professional way by Javi Bastard at Moontower studio, compared to the EP we did, that one was never really mixed, just mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound studio. I would say that this live album turned out fkn killer, just the way we want a kick ass Death Metal live album to be.”

3. Who did the production of this live album and what was the intention when mixing and mastering it in terms of the sound?

“As I said, Javi did the mixing and mastering down in Barcelona, Spain. The guy who originally recorded and sorted out the whole thing with the festival Death Kills in Stockholm is a dude called Fredrik Svensson. He is a killer fella helping a lot of band, new and old, arranging and promoting Death / Thrash gigs in the Stockholm area. When we heard that Fredrik could help us out and record the whole thing through the mixing desk, then we said “Why not?!” and just did it, and the result came out brutal as fuck, so we just decided to release album with it. Said and done, simple as that!”

4. What is your secret to keep blasting the drums and still touring after all these years, keeping the same energy and motivation as on early days?

“It’s like it comes to me man, sometimes it feels like I am struggling so hard for what, you know?! But yet I love playing drums and write Metal songs with my mates out there. so I keep on working. I don’t really like other people, or like that much of practically anything else, I don’t know?! And it’s OK if people see me as a strange individual, I don’t care, as long as I can fuck off in silence whenever I feel like it. I mean, I am not much of a small talker, I don’t have any other hobbies, and I really don’t know anything else besides Metal in general. This is what I do, if you don’t like – Fuck off!”

5. Do you keep practicing drum exercises by yourself to achieve new techniques or goals in terms of the instrument?

“Every now and then, a couple of times a week I practice along to the metronome, mainly kicks, but also wrists and snare hits. It’s just the basic’s really, I am not a technical drummer in the sense of Mike Mangini or others, and will never be. But don’t get me wrong; I love Mike’s drumming and I can sympathize with his passion for every little details about the drums, toms and pedals and whatnot, but for me I could never be bothered as much as him concerning the drums and everything around them. Yet I’d say that it’s more than enough with one Mike Mangini I reckon. My goal is first of all to have my own style, and that I had already when I was 17 years old when I played in ALTAR and SUFFER, from then on I have just matured and kept kicking the Hell out of the kit.”

6. How do you feel to have a label from El Salvador involved in this co-produced release?

“That’s fucking great! Jorge has been a fan of the band NOMINON forever and it’s just great that he is finally able to be more than just a “fan” so to speak. He and his Morbid Skull Records deserves to be part of such a powerhouse of a live album.”

7. Do you know any of the El Salvador metal scene or have you heard any of this country?

“Pete “Fucking” Sandoval! FTW! That’s enough for me man. Hahaaha!!! Besides from that I don’t know much, but I got a good friend coming from there, that I used to talk a lot to a few years ago, but she got married and we lost contact sort of. I did however ran into her at Fall of summer Festival in France last September, that was cool.”

8. How do you compare the swedish death metal scene from today versus the early 90s and also versus the 2000s?

“Early 90’ies = Gold! Early 2000’s = Silver! Today = Shit! It turned from Grotesque and Nihilist to Amon Amarth, to Tribulation, you do the math. I’m sorry guys!”

9. What are the plans for In Aeternum in the near future?

“We just recorded 4 songs at Studio Cave in Fagersta, Sweden. They are being mixed as we speak. I am really satisfied with the recording and I am glad that the band decided to get activated again after 9 years of hiatus away from the scene you know. Two of the songs will be released on a 7″ EP in late June/early July, just in time for our first show this year, at Metal Magic Festival in Denmark.”

10. Besides D666 tour is there any other tour you are planning? Maybe Latin America?

“Well, as NOMINON are taking things easy/having a break through out 2016. We do have some releases coming up though, like this Live CD that you’re releasing together with Deathgasm Rds and Disembodied Rds, then also a three-band split CD on a South Korean label called Fallen Angel Productions, together with our mates BLASPHERIAN and the Japanese maniacs SABBAT. That is set to be out in April/May. We will also work on some new material when we have the time. We have some songs already written, we just need to pick up the pieces and get our shit together. But it won’t happen these next months, we need this break to gain new energy and hopefully return to the scene with a bang. As you said, DESTRÖYER 666 will tour the world, starting now in March with Portugal and Spain, straight after the release of the new album “Wildfire” (Season of Mist Rds). We are doing a European tour with BÖLZER in April, then South America in May + Maryland Deathfest in US, plus a few festivals before going back to the US in July to do another 8 shows or whatever it is. We will stay busy as much as possible.”

11. I see that on the last D666 video clip you are wearing a DISSECTION t-shirt so i would like to know when did you meet Jon, did you have the opportunity to work with him? Also what do you think about his musical legacy and the message he left now days?

“I first met Jon at a MORBID ANGEL show in Fagersta, Sweden back in 1990. We occasionally hang out on and off until ’96 or so, then he ended up in jail. When he got out I worked for Brüchstein Tours in Germany, they were the booking agency responsible for the tour “Rebirth Of Dissection” in 2004, which led to me working as an assisting tour manager for them and the support band WATAIN on that tour. We spent 4-5 weeks in Europe, had lots of fun and it was a very triumphant tour. People were crazy about everything, really. DISSECTION stands out and pretty much crush everything in Sweden musicwise, together with CANDLEMASS and BATHORY. They are definitely a Top 5 band of all time over here. If people doesn’t get that, fuck ’em.”

12. Is there any phrase or words you know in Spanish you want to share?

“Mi madre puta negra!”

13. What can we expect from Perra Karlsson in the coming future?

“Pretty much already told you boys and girls everything that is happening. But I do have a bit of a Heavy Metal project going with a mate in Spain that not many people know of. More a mix of Trouble/Mercyful Fate and Savatage. I hope something will come out of that, we’ve got three songs so far, but no proper line-up, so I can’t really reveal that much else about this project yet. I also have a brand new personal website, that you are all welcome to check out:

Thanks for the interview and support. Cheers!”
